Located on the Wellington waterfront, this
prestiges development for the New Zealand Government was subjected
to a most comprehensive series of investigations, studies and
tests, before construction. With more than 140 seismic isolators
between the foundation and the building structure, to protect
national treasures from any earthquake effect, this must be
one of the most carefully constructed buildings in the country.
It is not surprising, therefore, that the choice of temporary
works was from well proven RMD equipment, including 5000 shoring
frames and extensive use of Super Slim Soldiers and Alform beams.
This impressive museum complex covers an area of 1 hectare,
rises five stories high and has a total floor space of 36,000m2.
The 12 shear walls rise the full height of the building, with
a main wall length of 50m at 750mm thickness. The local RMD
branch supplemented the contractor's own fleet of RMD equipment,
through hiring, to provide the slab shoring and shear wall formwork
for the entire project.
RMD's Strongshor was used for the shoring. Strongshor comprises
of four main components: frames, spigots, cross braces and head
and base jacks. Fewer components result in savings in time,
labour, storage, transport and inventory costs. |
